Who is whistling? - Felice Cavallotti

Italian politician and dramatic author Felice Cavallotti (1842-1898) couldn’t accept the fact that the audience didn’t like some of his theatrical works. When some critic heavily attacked one of his work after its premiere, Cavallotti went straight to the editor of the paper that published the article.

“That critic of yours didn’t like my work because of my party allegiances!" - Shouted Cavallotti.

“Dear mister Cavallotti,” the editor answered him calmly, “those who booed your work at the theater weren’t members of some political party, but a very small group of people that have actually watched your play”.

Scrat from Ice Age found on Mars!

While we're eagerly waiting for the fourth installment of the mega-successful Ice Age (Ice Age: Continental Drift), the star of the film, and possibly the most popular character in the series, Scrat,  a wacky "saber-toothed squirrel" who is obsessed with acorns, apparently moved – to Mars. 



While I was browsing the surface of the Mars in Google Earth, I accidentally stumbled on an image that amazingly resembles the character from  the movie Ice Age, a "saber-toothed squirrel" named Scrat. And not only that…the shape that I discovered is surrounded with blue color that looks almost like ice.

It appears that Scrat not even on Mars hasn’t manage to escape from Ice Age.

Theater – Giosue Borsi

During a theatrical performance in the ancient theater in Syracuse, an American tourist approached Italian writer Giosue Borsi (1888-1915). The tourist was deeply impressed with the theatrical performance, as well as with the amphitheater.

„We in America have also a theater such as this one“ – the tourist exclaimed proudly. „What do you think, how much time do we need to build such a structure?“ – he asked the writer.

“Well ... about two thousand years.” - Giosue Borsi answered.

Hollywood friendship – Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks

While walking down the Hollywood Boulevard one day, Charlie Chaplin (1889 - 1977) saw a large poster in front of a movie theater that announced a new film comedy in which Douglas Fairbanks played.

There was a young man standing there, and Chaplin asked him:

     - Boy, have you seen this movie?
     - Of course! – the boy answered. 
     - Is it funny? – asked Chaplin.-   What a stupid question. I died laughing.  Fairbanks is the best.
     - Is he good like Chaplin? 
     - Much better than that wretched Chaplin, for whom I only feel pity. – continued the young man. 
     - If so, let me introduce myself. I am Charlie Chaplin! – Chaplin angrily exclaimed. 
     - I am pleased to meet you. I am Douglas Fairbanks!

After this unusual acquaintance, Chaplin and Fairbanks became very good friends.

Hollywood experience – Dirk Bogarde

In 1960, famous British film and theater actor, Dirk Bogarde (1921-1999) went to Hollywood to film a movie called “Song Without End”. The movie was about the life of famous virtuoso pianist Franz Lizst.

After making that movie, Dirk Bogarde said that Americans are very uncultured and that he has no intention to ever come to Hollywood again.

Why?

Here is one line from the script that Liszt says in the movie, and which completely made mad Dirk Bogarde, who was known as perfect connoisseur of music and literature:

“Hi, do you know my friend? This is George Sand. That’s your friend Chopin. This is Hubert. Common meet George Sand.”

Plain and simple – Clive Barnes

Clive Barnes (1927-2008), a prominent theater critic for The New York Times, once attended the first performance of second-rate theatrical play called "The Cupboard". After the premiere of the play, in the newspaper appeared unusually short theatrical criticism.

In the article entitled “The Cupboard” Barnes wrote only one word: "Bare".

Good performance – Sir James Matthew Barrie

Creator of "Peter Pan", English journalist and playwright Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), often attended theatrical performances of his most famous work.

During one performance of "Peter Pan”, there was a boy in Barrie’s lodge. That particular boy was continually jumping from his seat and leaning on the fence, like trying to jump into the audience.

Since the opinion of children was very precious for his writing, Matthew Barrie asked the boy:

- What did you liked the most in tonight’s performance?

 

- Tearing the program, and then throwing pieces of paper on the heads of those who sat down! - cheerfully answered a small theater aficionado.
